circa 1939 – the 1940 census lists them as living in Deer Creek so this may have been taken at the house on Main St in Deer Creek

I drove through Deer Creek today, as I have hundreds of times, on my way to Washington from Carlock. I like to drive Main Street because I remember Grandma Carroll telling me her grandma, Grandma Nannie Hendricks, lived on Main St. Today I looked up the census records so I would know exactly which house she used to live in. The 1940 census doesn’t list a house number, just a list of houses on Main Street. The next house down from hers is listed as belonging to Fern and Laura Boyd, Nannie’s daughter and son in law. But by 1950 we now have house numbers and she is listed as 103. Laura and Fern had moved to I think Mackinaw by then and Ed had died. I don’t know if there are any Hendricks left in Deer Creek today. A simple directory search doesn’t list any but nonetheless I still feel a strange connection to the town, knowing Aunt Mary grew up there living with Grandma Hendricks, both of whom Grandma Carroll held such affection for. Of course Grandpa Carroll went to school in Deer Creek too, basically grew up in the area, and then moved there for awhile with Grandma Carroll and farmed nearby, but I don’t know how to pin down those locations since they’re farms, and census documents don’t show precise location data for those.

Obituary lists Nancy as a Mackinaw resident. She moved to Mackinaw sometime after 1950.
